The month of October in India marks the beginning of the festivals and also in other parts of the world preparation of a festival named “HALLOWEEN” starts. Halloween is celebrated in the month of October which involves candies, pumpkin carvings, costumes, bonfire, trick-or-treating, and considered the spookiest night of the year. That’s why instead of October it’s called spooktober (Spooky + October). It is mostly celebrated in the United States (US) on 31st October every year and also around the different parts of the world in various forms. But its origin is not set in the US. The tradition started mostly in the area where Celts (a person of Irish, Scottish, Cornish, or Cornwall descent) lived which is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France. They celebrated a festival named Samhain to mark the end of the harvest season and also the Celtic New Year. This is considered as a magical time when the line between death and life seems to be thinnest. People gather together to light up bonfires and wear costumes to driveway spirits. Over the period, the festival evolved and the Catholic Church changed November 1, the original date of Samhain, and was designated All Saints Day to honor martyrs and the deceased faithful. All Saints Days was known as Hallowmas (Hallow means holy or saintly) meaning mass of the saints and 31st October was All Hallows Eve which gradually changed into Halloween.
